Bélgica se ha convertido en uno de los principales objetivos del terrorismo en Europa, en parte porque es el país de la Unión Europea con más yihadistas per cápita: cerca de 500 personas, en su mayoría jóvenes con nacionalidad europea, han viajado a Siria o Irak para unirse al yihadismo. Esta situación se agravó tras atentados como el del museo judío de Bruselas y el del 13-N en París, cuyos autores se radicalizaron en barrios como Molenbeek, lo que llevó al país a tomar medidas inéditas de seguridad ante el temor de nuevos ataques.

Belgium has become one of the main targets of terrorism in Europe, partly because it has the highest number of jihadists per capita in the European Union: nearly 500 people, mostly young citizens of European nationality, have traveled to Syria or Iraq to join jihadist groups. This situation worsened after attacks such as the Jewish Museum shooting in Brussels and the November 13 attacks in Paris, whose perpetrators were radicalized in neighborhoods like Molenbeek. In response, the country adopted unprecedented security measures due to fears of new attacks.
